Any USWDS input mask component should pass these manual accessibility tests.

Test the input mask in your project

USWDS tests components in isolation. You need to test the input mask component in the context of your own site to ensure compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.

General tests

Select passing tests

Input mask heading is clear and descriptive. When you view the input mask, the headings and hint text are clear and concise.

Zoom magnification tests

Input mask remains visible and functional when screen is magnified. When you zoom in to 200%, the input mask is still readable, legible, usable and properly sized.

Keyboard navigation tests

The input mask is operable using only a keyboard. Using only a keyboard, you can navigate to the input mask, type in it, and navigate away from it.

Input mask does not trap focus. When you navigate with a keyboard, you can easily move into and out of the input mask.

Tabbing into the input mask doesn’t trigger a change of context. When using a keyboard to access the input mask, there is no change until you activate it with the enter key or spacebar. For example, entering text doesn’t cause the focus to jump to the next field.

Screen reader tests

Screen reader announces field purpose. When using a screen reader to access the input mask field, you hear the field label, text related to the field, and whether or not the field is required.

Screen readers announce the field’s purpose. When using a screen reader, you hear the purpose of the input mask field. For example, you hear “Enter your U.S. telephone number.”

The input mask component may not pass all elements of this test.

The input mask may not allow auto complete when collecting data about a user.
